چکیده

The Be(p, γ)B reaction is one of the major source of uncertainties in estimating the B solar neutrino flux and is critical for undertsanding the Solar Neutrino Problem and neutrinos. The main source of uncertainty is the existence of conflicting data with different absolute normalization. Attempts to measure this reaction rate with Be beams are under way by the UConn-LLN collaboration, and we discuss a newly emerging method to extract this cross section from the Coulomb dissociation of the radioactive beam of B. We discuss some of the issues relevant for this study including the question of the E2 contribution to the Coulomb dissociation process which was measured to be small. The Coulomb dissociation appears to provide a viable alternative method for measuring the Be(p, γ)B reaction rate, with a weighted average of the RIKEN1, RIKEN2 and GSI1 published results of S17(0) = 19.4 ± 1.3 eV-b.

Neutrino magnetic moments and photo - disintegration of deuterium

Neutrinos with non-zero magnetic moments can dissociate deuterium nuclei by a photon exchange, in addition to the weak neutral current process. We calculate the neutrino-magnetic moment induced photo-dissociation cross section of deuterium using the equivalent photon method. This process would contribute extra events to the neutral current reaction which is observed with high precision in the s...

Nuclear Astrophysics with Secondary (radioactive) Beams

Some problems in nuclear astrophysics are discussed with emphasize on the ones central to the field which were not solved over the last two decades, including Helium Burning in massive stars (the C(α, γ)O reaction) and the B Solar Neutrino Flux Problem (the Be(p, γ)B reaction). We demonstrate that a great deal of progress was achieved by measuring the time reverse process(es): the beta-delayed ...

Coulomb breakup of 8 B and the flux of 8 B neutrinos from the

A kinematically complete measurement was made of the Coulomb dissociation of B nuclei on a Pb target at 83 MeV/nucleon. The cross-section was measured at low relative energies in order to infer the astrophysical S-factor for the Be(p,γ)B reaction. A first-order perturbation theory analysis of the reaction dynamics including E1, E2, and M1 transitions was employed to extract the E1 strength rele...

Breakup of loosely bound nuclei as indirect method in nuclear astrophysics : 8 B , 9 C , 23

Breakup of loosely bound nuclei as indirect method in nuclear astrophysics: Abstract. We discuss the use of one-nucleon breakup reactions of loosely bound nuclei at intermediate energies as an indirect method in nuclear astrophysics. These are peripheral processes, therefore we can extract asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC) from which reaction rates of astrophysical interest can be inf...

The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) is a water imaging Cherenkov detector. Its usage of 1000 metric tons of D 2 O as target allows the SNO detector to make a solar-model independent test of the neutrino oscillation hypothesis by simultaneously measuring the solar ν e flux and the total flux of all active neutrino species. Solar neutrinos from the decay of 8 B have been detected at SNO by the...
